09MMB006 ABSTRACT: UTI is a bacterial disease which is mainly caused by the Uropathogenic E.coli. Antibiotics are the first choice for the treatment of the UTI,but this antibiotics have the various side effects like immune suppression, diarrhea, abdominal pain, skin rash, vomiting, so we focus on the other alternative which have antimicrobial activity against Uropathogens. In present plants are uses for the treatment of the various diseases because these plants have intergradient’s which posses antimicrobial activity.so in this study we are trying to find out alternative for the treatment of the UTI. Plants which are use to check antimicrobial activity against the Uropathogens are Acorus calamus, Nigella sativa, Trigonella foenum gracum. In study of these plants result shows that aqueous extract of A. calmus rhizome are inactive against UPEC but organic solvents extract(petrolieum ether, hexane, ethyl acetate and chloroform) are active against the UPEC and S.aureus.Petroleum ether extract show high zone of inhibition(16mm) and the other hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform show 15, 14, 15 mm inhibition zone against UPEC. In case of S. aureus chloroform extract of A. calmus shows high antimicrobial activity. It shows 24 mm of inhibition zone. Hexane, petroleum ether and ethyl acetate shows 14 mm, 13 mm and 16 mm zone of inhibion. In previous study show that N. sativa have antimicrobial activity but in this study results revealed that the aqueous extract and organic solvent extract are inactive against the uropathogenic E.coli and S. aureus. T. foenum gracum which is also known as fenugreek, are important Indian medicinal plant.which have wound healing and antimicrobial properties. Results revealed that petroleum ether and hexane extract of trigonella are highly active against the UPEC. Petrolieum ether extract show 20 mm zone of inhibition and hexane extract show 19 mm inhibition zone but this extract are inactive against the S. aureus. Aqueous extract are inactive against both uropathogen UPEC and S. aureus.
