પ્રચંડ દેશદાઝની કથા : ગુજરાતનો નાથ

સ્વ. ક.મા. મુનશીની 'પાટણની પ્રભુતા' (1916) ગુજરાતની અસ્મિતા, ગૌરવ, વતનપરસ્તીની કથા છે તો તેના અનુસંધાનમાં આવતી "ગુજરાતનો નાથ" (1917)માં રાષ્ટ્રની એકતા-અખંડિતતા માટે 'એકેકેન્દ્રી શાસનપદ્ધતિ' અને તે માટે દેશભક્તિ જન્માવી પ્રેરી શકે તેવો સબળ નેતા જોઈએ તેની વાત કેન્દ્રમાં છે. આજના ભારતની સ્થિતિ જોતાં લગભગ સો વરસ પછી આ નવલકથા ઘણી પ્રસ્તુત અને ઉપયોગી લાગે છે.

ભાવકોની જિજ્ઞાસાવૃત્તિને સતત સંકોરતા રહીને અત્યંત ગતિશીલ શૈલીમાં કથાપ્રવાહને આગળ લઈ જવાની કલામાં મુનશીની કાબેલિયત બેમિસાલ છે. સોલંકી સમયની સુવર્ણભરી વૈભવી યાદોને એમણે મુંજાલ-મીનળ, ત્રિભુનપાળ - કાશ્મીરાદેવી (જે 'પાટણની પ્રભુતા'માં પ્રસન્ન છે)ના પ્રસંગોથી આગળ ધપાવી છે તો જયદેવ-રાણક, ખેંગાર-સોમસુંદરી અને સૌથી વધુ તો કાક-મંજરી જેવાં પ્રણયી યુગલોના પ્રેમપ્રસંગોથી અત્યંત રસિક બનાવી છે. વાચકને છેક સુધી વિચારતો રાખે છે કે 'ગુજરાતનો નાથ' કોણ? જયદેવ? મુંજાલ? ત્રિભુવનપાળ? કે કાક?
